Aphex Twin is planning another release, Syro, very soon, after a very long time. The english electronic musician, formally known as Richard D. James, has been recording music since (at least) the mid 80s, initially cutting into his local scene with tracks featured on his debut album Select Ambient Works: 85-92. Diving quickly into a deep pool of avant-garde soundscapes and visual surrealism, it wouldn’t be long before his track names become synonymous experimental vanguard throughout the entire electronic genre. James has pushed everything to the limits, evolving from his more calm “ambient” releases to everything from far-out violent noise and back to a more concrete version of his original material. He also happens to be one of the original internet trolls. Here’re my favorites, which may serve to introduce those who don’t know his work:
